Bathukamma is a colourful festival of flowers in Telangana being celebrated by women stated the Minister for Home Mahamood Ali. The festival over the years became a symbol of Telangana culture and identity. Bathukamma falls during the second half of monsoon, before the onset of winter. Bathukamma is celebrated by the womenfolk of Telangana, heralding the beauty of vibrant nature in colourful flowers with greenary.

The Home Minister distributed sarees here to the womenfolk.

During the festival women start singing songs by making rounds around Bathukamma repeatedly, building a beautiful human circle of unity, love and sisterhood. The festival heralds the beauty of nature, collective spirit of Telangana people, the indomitable spirit of womenfolk and also the ecological spirit of the agrarian people in preserving the natural resources in a festive way he said.

Smt Kavitha , ex M.P and president Telangana Jagruthi foundation has initiated the annual programme of Bathukamma festival not only in Telangana state but in foreign soil also in a Jubilant mood he stated.

After the formation of Telangana State , the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri K.Chandrashekar Rao allotted special funds to celebrate Bathukamma as a state festival by distributing sarees to womenfolk as a gesture from Government by sanctioning around Rs.300 crores.

In a similar way the Government during Ramzan and Christmas distributes festival gifts to the Muslim and Christian families in the state. Thus the festival of Bathukamma plays a vital role in the life of womanhood in the state he said.

Corporator Smt Singireddy Swarnalatha Reddy, GHMC Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy, Azam Ali, Shaheen Afroze and others participated in the programme.
