The panchayat elections will be held as per schedule in the state of AP said the state election commissioner. The State Government was not for conducting the elections here.

The Court said that elections must be held according to the Constitution and Democratic norms. But there is a chance that the state Government might approach the Supreme Court in this regard.

The state said that due to Corona duties the police and state officials cannot participate in the election duty. But the SEC gave the example of other states like Bihar and Telangana where the elections were held during Corona time.

The SEC will have a meeting with the DGP over the conduct of elections. The Supreme Court may not stop the elections at this junctions as the High court has ruled for conduct of the elections.

This is a set back to the Jagan Government which earlier has faced many strictures from the courts. There was a tussle between the state and SEC in this regard.

The state has been postponing the election from time to time. Now the SEC has already released the schedule for the Panchayat elections.
