The trials for the E Prix car racing will begin today at Necklace Road in Hyderabad. A gallery for around 8 thousand people is in place to watch the racing.
Formula E is the only other single-seater racing series to have FIA World Championship status outside of Formula 1.
There are 11 teams this year and 22 drivers for the season. Teams include Jaguar TCS Racing, Mahindra Racing and ROKiT Venturi Racing, amongst others.
The purpose of Formula E is also to highlight the importance of electric cars in an attempt to create a more sustainable future, free of air pollution.
The switch from Gen1 to Gen2 heralded significant racing improvements, as the cars looked much faster on the road – and resulted in several seconds faster laptimes. Gen2 cars were also more energy-dense, allowing them to finish a full race distance – previously, Gen1 cars would be swapped out mid-race for a new car with a full battery.
