The draft policy on solid waste management rules was discussed at a meeting held at secretariat today. Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar, Director Municipal Administration Dr T K Sridevi and Professor Srinivas Chary of the ASCI were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Arvind Kumar said that the draft solid waste management policy should be relooked keeping in view of the 68 newly constituted Municipalities.He also stressed the need to work out a strategy to improve source segregation, transportation, processing and disposal of garbage in the newly constituted municipalities.
The door to door garbage collection system and segregation of garbage shall be improved in all the urban local bodies in the state, he added. He stated that instructions should be issued to all ULBs to strictly enforce rules on effective treatment of biomedical waste. Director Municipal Administration Dr T K Sridevi said that 40 ULBs are manufacturing compost while 30 dry resource collection centres are functioning in the ULBs.
