The Rajya Sabha today could not transact any business as the opposition stalled the proceedings. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice over the Triple Talaq bill and the government could not initiate a discussion over the matter. The leader of the opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and other members of the opposition demanded that the Triple Talaq bill needs further scrutiny and that it must be sent to the select committee. The Bill earlier was moved and passed in the Lok Sabha without full-length discussion.
There also the opposition demanded that the bill is referred to the select committee. The MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi rejected the bill outright and said that it goes against the interest of the Muslim community. Amid a tussle between the ruling party and the opposition, the house was no position to transact any business and was adjourned for the day. The Minister for parliamentary affairs Vijay Goel said that the bill was supported by the Congress in the Lok Sabha and that they must support it here in Rajya Sabha also. Minister for Law Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Government was ready for discussion and that the changes can be done as per the suggestions of the members after proper deliberations.
