Government of Telangana, with a view to improving the transport systems in Hyderabad, has embarked on several initiatives like SRDP (GHMC), Model Corridors Development (HRDCL), and Network-wide Traffic Management with the help of ITS (Traffic Police). All these projects are in an advanced state of progress. These Projects are basically to improve mobility along the primary traffic corridors.

In the meanwhile, it was thought to be befitting to identify certain connections/links in the road network that can provide effective relief to traffic congestion on the major corridors, if improved/constructed at a relatively low budget, by forming as alternative distributors or parallel routes in serving the needs of commuters in Hyderabad.

Objectives of Missing links Concept:

The proposed construction of missing links/slip roads are expected to achieve the following objectives:

– Improve the mobility of the residents of Hyderabad
– Improve traffic operations in major corridors
– Shorten the travel distances for commuters
– Improve road safety with improved features of safety
– Economic growth: to help enhancement of commercial establishment and value of properties.
– Reduction of Carbon levels and Journey time on main roads playing vital role during peak hours Jams.
– Open up all antisocial activity/dark areas.
– Reduces the risk of death of emergency patients giving short to Ambulance Phase -1: (135 Links – 126.20km)

After intensive study of the traffic pattern over space/road network of Hyderabad, the technical feasibility, availability of RoW and ease of construction 135 links amounting to a total length of 126.20 kms were identified.

About 44.7 kms of roads with an estimated cost of Rs 313.65 crs are on-going under Phase I(a) and balance links will be taken up in the continuous process of development. GHMC and HMDA played a vital role in timely completion of Land Acquisition.
