Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the Government of India would examine the possibility of implementing the Mission Bhagiratha type of scheme for the provision of safe drinking water to every household all over the country.
. The Union Ministers said with the participation of the States concerned, the drinking water programme would be implemented. Sri GS Shekhawat suggested that the state government should study the improvised sewerage treatment plant system which help to make use of treated water for domestic and agricultural purposes. He said such a method is globally tested and appreciated. He said this treated water can also be used for village sanitation.
The Union Minister called on Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, along with Parameswaran Iyer, Union Secretary Drinking water and Sanitation on Monday at Pragathi Bhavan. On the occasion, Sri GS Shekhawat inquired details about the works taken up as part of Mission Bhagiratha Scheme. The CM and other officials gave the union Minister a power Pont presentation on Mission Bhagiratha works.
Briefing about Mission Bhagiratha, the CM said, “For 24,000 habitations in the Telangana State, we have decided to provide safe drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha Scheme. There used to be severe drinking water scarcity at several places in the State.
There used to be problem of fluoride at many places. Drinking water was not available at several places and the water that was available was not pure often leading to severe health issues for the people. Hence, we have taken up the scheme to purify water from Godavari and Krishna Rivers and supply pure drinking water on a daily basis to the people. The Scheme is almost completed. A permanent solution to the drinking water problems is found. People will be healthy with this Scheme. Mission Bhagiratha (MB) brought a substantial and qualitative change in the life style of rural women of Telangana.
It is an end-to-end solution. The process of drawing water from source to end point is unique. This is through overheads by gravity. Due to Mission Bhagiratha there is a permanent solution of drinking water problem. As on date, 23, 968 habitations were covered through the scheme and only 91 were left which are in remote tribal areas,” the CM said.
“We have kept in mind the rise in population in the coming 30 years and the demands that may crop up then. Hence, we have designed the project keeping in view the demands that may come up for the next 30 years. If this Scheme is implemented all over the country it will be of a great use. One should not view the schemes aimed at providing drinking water from the financial expenditure point of view, “ the CM explained.
“The Central government has fixed its aim and objective to provide safe drinking water to the people all over the country. The Telangana government has already fulfilling this aim. Hence, the Centre should extend financial help to the Mission Bhagiratha Scheme,” the CM told the union minister.
Explaining further, the CM told the union minister that in the 11th century Kakatiya kings taught about watershed to the whole country. The Kakatiya Dynasty Kings have created thousands of lakes but they were all destroyed under the united AP rule. The CM also explained about the revival of tanks programme launched under Mission Kakatiya. He said, of the rejuvenation of 47, 000 tanks. 20, 000 were completed covering 90% of the Ayucut.
