Kerala is witnessing heavy rains since August 8. The tricolour was hoisted today by the locals in chest deep water. Most of the houses are inundated and a red alert has been issued by the Government for entire Kerala.
The locals who have been there since decades said that they have never witnessed anything of this kind so far. The gates of dams have been opened as the rivers were filled up to the brim and the people in the low lying areas have been moved to different safer places. More than 50 people have died in the floods. The NDRF teams and the locals are working to shift the people from the low lying areas.
The flight operations at the Cochin airport has been suspended till August 18. Drinking water has become a big issue and the food problem is also there in some areas. The Government is trying to resolve the issue. All the tourist hill stations have been closed.
