The opposition is all set to demand the resignation of the Union Home Minister Ami Shah over the said snoop gate. The Parliament will be stormy today with the members of the opposition demanding an explanation over the issue of Pegasus software.

The BJP on the other hand says that some international organizations who are unhappy with the progress of India are doing this and that there was no truth in the allegations of the Opposition.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and the party’s floor leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury accused the government of playing with security. Surjewala dubbed the ruling BJP as the “Bharatiya Jasoos Party”, while Chowdhury said that instead of “Digital India”, PM Modi has started “Surveillance India”.

NSO Group – a private Israeli cybersecurity firm that developed the Pegasus software – has denied the allegations that its software targeted 50,000 phone numbers globally. The leaked database of these numbers was accessed by French non-profit Forbidden Stories and Amnesty International and subsequently shared with 16 media organizations.

Indian Media reports have alleged that over 300 people, including 40 journalists were also among the targets. However, NSO has rubbished these allegations and cast doubts on the reliability of the sources.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to her Twitter handle and wrote that if the report on the use of Pegasus is true then the Modi Government has violated Human Rights and called it dangerous for democracy.
