The Gandhi family and senior Congress leaders had apprehensions that the Poll strategist Prashant Kishore popular as PK might highjack the Congress party.

That is the reason they did not agree with the suggestions Kishore gave. PK was almost on the verge of taking over the Congress party in the name of new leadership at all levels.

PK wanted a new leader other than the Gandhis. This was the first reason they declined to agree with Kishore and that was the reason he refused to join the party.

I declined the generous offer of #congress to join the party as part of the EAG & take responsibility for the elections. In my humble opinion, more than me, the party needs leadership and collective will to fix the deep-rooted structural problems through transformational reforms,” Kishor said in a tweet, minutes after Surjewala’s announcement.

At the meetings with Sonia Gandhi and other top leaders, Prashant Kishor had reportedly said that Congress should concentrate on 370 Lok Sabha seats and should forge alliances for the rest, as per sources.

He also said that Congress should fight alone in UP, Bihar and Odisha while in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Maharashtra, Congress should fight in alliance, they added. PK also discussed strategies for the upcoming polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
