Sanjay Leela Bhansalis, Padmavathi has been in news and also in trouble from the beginning due to various reasons. The cast and crew that were selected also opted out in the process. People talked about Ranbir, Shahid and also the long legged beauty Deepika Padukone.

Then they said Ranbir opted out due to Shahid. But no one knows what is the reality and the director Sanjay Leela did not give any details as to what is happening on that front. Now the news is that Eros International that seems to have had somewhat of a jinx of late, has now opted out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming magnum opus, a historical drama titled Padmavati.

The bone of contention for opting out was apparently the budget of the film — a whopping Rs 170 crore.

Participation of yet another production house, Viacom 18 too was sought, but with Eros backing out, it seems unlikely that Viacom will continue to support the film.

So where does that leave Padmavati? “Not in a very secure place, I am afraid,” says an insider. “No corporate house would be willing to dole out the kind of budget that the film requires—not for a costume drama, especially after the debacle of Mohenjo Daro.”

The producers want films with no risk these days. They want a sure hit and want to make good money in the thin air. Most of the films are now sold on the past track record of the directors or Heroes. Leela has been a hit director, but the producers are afraid of Historical movies and the huge investment and time that they take to be completed. Especially the infrastructure that they need to make such huge movies.
