With no restriction on makeshift cattle markets, the main roads of Hyderabad are lined up with Goats and sheep. Nampally, Asif Nagar, Old city, Musheerabad, parts of Secunderabad, Towlichowki, and PV Express Highway are busy with goat and sheep buyers.

Rich people are showing interest in the ‘Full Qurbani Service’, which includes buying and maintaining cattle for sacrifice, arranging their slaughter, cutting and processing the meat, and delivering it to customers’ homes, or to others.

The sheeps and goats are delivered in Maruti Vans at home and services are offered for Sacrificing and cutting them to suit the needs of the customers.

Bakrid here is on July 21. It is observed on the 10th day of the last Islamic month ‘Zilhajjah’. The faithful sacrifice animals for three days.

People are moving around in crowded markets for purchasing sheep, goat or buffaloes, feeding the animal for two or three days, conforming to legal and social restrictions in sacrificing the animal at their door and searching for a butcher for slaughtering and cutting the meat.

People residing in flats in residential complexes and gated communities particularly in mixed-religion areas find this practice of surrogate or remote sacrifice as the best option.

It allows the smooth performance of a religious ritual without hurting anyone. Some residents of the tradition-bound Old City are also opting for this facility.

People sacrifice the goat, sheep, and other cattle and distribute the meat to relatives and friends. This year a 10 Kg goat is costing around Rs8000 to 10000 it is reported. The sellers have come to Hyderabad and surrounding areas from other states also.

The festive atmosphere for Bakrid is better than the last year. The crowds are coming out in large numbers for purchasing sheep and goats. Bakrid is coming after Toli Ekadasi which is on 20th. Toli Ekadasi marks the start of festivals for the Telugu people and the next day we have bakrid.
