The police stated that since few days, fraudsters are uploading their contact numbers as Customer Care service numbers of various payment, shopping and courier applications/websites. When customers search for the Customer care service numbers on Google and contact them.

Fraudsters pretend as the Customer care executives and trick them into revealing their banking credentials or ask them to make nominal payment through link sent by them and cheat innocents to the tune of lakhs of rupees.

In some instances they also ask them to download remote access applications or scan a QR code for immediate delivery of the products or to resolve the issue and cheat them.

Now they came up with a new trick, fraudster in advance creates a UPI ID using the number/name of his target, on call he asks the victim to add the UPI ID created by him in payment application. The victim blindly believes the caller and add the UPI to existing UPI.

Then fraudster asks the victim to transfer funds to other UPI account. Victims by mistake believe it to be their own account and transfer amounts and thereby get cheated.
