The festivities of Bonalu are being conducted in a big way in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu Jathara will be held on 21st July said Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. K Chandrasekhar Rao the Chief Minister of Telangana is expected to have the darshan of Mahankali at Secunderabad with the family members.
A huge procession is being taken up as part of the Jathara with Ghatam and Potharaju for the Bonalu festivities.
The Bonalu festivities will be done for a monthlong time. The festivities started from Golkonda with a large number of devotees gathering at the fort for the traditional pooja with Bonam and food. Secunderabad is all decked up for the traditional Ammavari pooja and Potharajula Jathara apart from Ghatam, Bonam and other rituals.
Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav is taking care of the supervision here at the Temple for the puja. The State Government has allocated funds for the festival which would be done for a month across the city in various temples on every Sunday.
All the matha temples are spruced up painted and decorated for the event. This is a festival where goats are sacrificed for Ammavaru with Bonam and toddy liquor.
Bonalu festival starts in the Old city and comes to Secunderabad. Minister Talasan Srinivas Yadav will personally dance for the Ghatam procession here for the Ujjaini Mahankali Bonalu. Here they pray to the Ammavaru to see that there are no diseases in the state, there will be good rains and people get enough rain for the crops.
The next day of Bonalu is treated as Rangam where Ammvaru gives the future prediction for the state. The processions are taken up with colourful dattis and thotellas. Band Baja with theen maar follows them.
Ladies dressed in a traditional silk dress with Bonam on their heads and the potharajus dance to the tune of Theen maar on the streets up to the Temple.
