Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday termed the Enforcement Directorate’s raids at his Delhi and Chennai residences as a “comedy of errors” and asserted that the agency had no jurisdiction to probe the matter under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED conducted raids at Chidambaram’s son Karthis premises in Delhi and Chennai in connection with the Aircel Maxis money laundering case.
“There is no FIR registered concerning a scheduled crime by any investigating agency and hence, the ED has no jurisdiction to probe the case under PMLA,” the former finance minister said.
Adding that he had already anticipated that the ED might conduct such a raid today, Chidambaram said that the agency officials found “nothing” during the raid.
