The wrestlers who were agitating in Delhi have withdrawn the agitation as the Wrestling Federation chief has stepped down. The Government has ordered an inquiry into the issue.
In a shocking development, commonwealth gold medallist and former Olympian Narsingh Yadav and other wrestlers have been accused of discrimination in Haryana camps and supported Brij Bhushan Singh, president Wrestling Federation of India, in the ongoing row.
Many wrestlers from Haryana are protesting against Brij Bhushan with Olympian Vinesh Phogat accusing him of sexual harassment and demanding his resignation.
The protesters are angry as their hegemony was being broken by Brij Bhushan who is giving chances to each state wrestler, from Bihar to Kerala. How can one identify talent, only through bout among the best. Why are the protesting wrestlers so afraid of playing nationals? This is the reason why Brij Bhushan is being targeted,” said a wrestler.
Brij Bhushan is against this practice and wanted to send the best performer to the Olympics and other international events. This didn’t go well with the Haryana lobby. These fake allegations are a result of the efforts to give fair chance to wrestlers from across the country,” said another wrestler.
