Thousands of people have been displaced in the city due to heavy rains in the last two days and shifted to rehabilitation centres established in government schools, anganwadi centers and other government buildings.

Some NGOs have been feeding these people in Hyderabad. Milk and other essential commodities have become costly and the people are unable to move out as the cellars of the flats are submerged.

Besides this, nearly 1,000 families from inundated apartments in Kukatpally and surrounding localities took shelter at their relatives due to power cuts and lack of communication networks.

“The Telangana Hoteliers’ Association and other NGOs have distributed food packets, drinking water and provided other amenities to the people in the rehabilitation centres.

According to the latest reports, nearly half of the people in the centres had been relocated to their homes after the situation was brought under control.”

In Rangareddy District nearly 250 people took shelter in rehabilitation centre at Balanagar and 200 more in Malkajgiri.

Officially there are no rehabilitation centres in the city. “As per the requirement, the officials are shifting public from downpour localities. Some of them are shifting on their own.

“Begumpet and Mayuri Marg are under the jurisdiction of Rangareddy district. Balanagar revenue division officials are taking care of rehabilitation centres,” he said. People from Bandari layout said: “Nearly 80 apartments were affected. About 150 families shifted for temporary shelter at their relatives’ place.”

Rain for another 2 days is expected and the situation is turning into an emergency like situation and the NDRF teams are yet to take control of the situation.CM KCR is monitoring the situation and Minister KTR is looking at the grass root level. The other Ministers are yet to come to the rescue of the people.
