A 27-year-old constable from Beed, Lalita Salvi wrote to the higher-ups in the state police machinery seeking permission to undergo a sex change operation.
In a letter addressed to her immediate bosses and the state Deputy General of Police Satish Mathur, the constable has stated that she feels “uncomfortable living as a female”.
She has also mentioned that she has received a nod from the JJ Hospital to go ahead with the sex reassignment surgery.
While determining one’s sexuality is the right of every individual, the police top brass are in a dilemma as Salvi has said she would want to continue serving the police department after her sex change.
