There is talk that the cinema tickets would come under the purview of the GST. With GST the ticket rates will go high. A ticket costing more than 100 rupees will go up to Rs 150. This becomes a burden for the middle class. But this is the class which buys the tickets in large numbers. The come to the theatres to watch the movies.

But if the tickets rates go high one can expect a severe decline in the footfalls at the theatres. This is the time people have started going to multiplexes and if the rates go up at this time it would be difficult.

Already itis becoming difficult for the movie makers to draw people to the theatres as they are glued to sports and TV serials. Unless the movie is extraordinary people are not bothered to visit the theatres.

The producers are worried and on them said that like RGV one has to think about releasing the movies on the web. Movies with the duration of half an hour and one hour can be released on the web or as net series. One can be shown in instalments. RGV released a porn movie on web internationally it did OK business.

The short films are already popular. If the GST hits the movie market then the directors would have no other alternative but to go for the short films.
