Women Safety Wing was established in 2018 within which the SHE Module monitors the work done by all the SHE Teams in all Districts in Telangana State. Main aim of the SHE module is to deal with offences related to Women and Children, especially Eve-Teasing, Stalking, Harassment against Women and Children in public places, work places, educational institutions and residential areas. SHE Module achieves this through SHE Teams both in real world and virtually. At present there are 331 SHE teams working in
Telangana State.
During the year 2022 (as on 30.09.2022) a total number of 5125 complaints were received through various complaint mechanisms that include Dial 100 (21), WhatsApp (2187), Facebook (0), Hawk Eye (25), Email (35), Twitter (23), Direct walk (1830)-ins at SHE Teams offices and WSW headquarters, decoy-operations (925), QR Code (41), and TSRTC (1), help desk. 39% of the complaints were received through in-person mode and 61% through indirect mode of the complaints received (5125-916) has been dealt with.Various initiatives and technologies have been adopted by SHE Module, Women Safety Wing.
They are:
● A software application was especially designed for the She Teams Officers working in Districts /Commissionerates to update and store the unit wise SHE Team data.
● With the help of Expert counsellors started the process of Online Counselling to the respondents in SHE Team cases. For the period under reporting a total of 4488 respondents underwent counselling (Both Minor and Major)
● Reporting: Just a click away: QR Code Mechanism for complaints in order to provide easy access to Victims to scan the barcode to file complaints.
● In order to make the reporting process easier for the people, the WSW has launched a non-emergency WhatsApp number (9441669988) for the state SHE Team.
● A Step towards Community-Oriented Policing- Believing in the capacity of the current and future generations who can act as a catalyst in changing the world,Women Safety Wing envisioned to enable young people in creating safe spaces.Echoing the vision, ‘Girl Safety Clubs’ were launched in the month of February 2020.
● With the surge in cyber-attacks on women and children across Telangana during the devastating pandemic, WSW has initiated timely action called ‘CybHER – Making Cyberspace Safe for Women and Children’. During the campaign, the students asked multiple questions on cyber safety which prompted the need for a long-term project called Cyber Congress where 2 students selected from each government
school are trained on Cyber Safety and are equipped to create awareness. The project aimed to enable 3,300 adolescent students as cyber ambassadors from 1650 government Schools in 33 districts of Telangana and it is successfully completed ,now we are preparing for Phase –II The project aims to enable 9564 adolescent students as cyber ambassadors from 2391 government Schools in 33 districts of
Telangana.
● The website of the Women Safety Wing has been massively upgraded to enable access to relavant information and complaint channels to all citizens (https://womensafetywing.telangana.gov.in/)
In the last 7 years, She Teams has left no stone unturned to ensure the safety and security of women. It has opened new doors of people friendly policing by making the common citizens more inclusive in its implementations.
Based on the data of complaints received in 2022 (Sep-2022), Cyberabad received the highest number (1571) of petitions among all the units followed by Hyderabad (1240), Rachakonda (971) and Nalgonda (298). The maximum number of complaints received include phone harassment (31%), teasing & misbehaving (20%), stalking (9%) and harassment through social media (9%).
Most commonly used medium to complaint is Whatsapp followed by direct visit to the She Team offices. SHE Team units across the state have conducted 10836 awareness events for public in schools, colleges, community places and hotspots.
