The rate of Tomatoes has come down drastically. Some of them are selling it for 6kg at hundred rupees. There is overproduction of tomatoes and most of it is given as fodder to the animals. Some of it is dumped in the garbage and into the water bodies.

Following a sharp decline in tomato prices and alleged exploitation by traders, farmers staged a protest by throwing tomatoes onto NH-44 Road on the outskirts of Anantapur.

Despite tomatoes retailing at around ₹20 per kg, traders have reportedly set the price for a 15 kg box between ₹100 and ₹200,forming what the farmers claim is a syndicate to fix prices unfairly.

The farmers are demanding government intervention to address the situation. In Anantapur district, which has over 55,000 acres of tomato cultivation, farmers rely on the Kakkalapalli and Madanapalle markets to sell their produce.

The AP Government should construct cold storage chains so that tomatoes can be crushed and stored for other future usage. The pureecan be extracted also. The construction of the cold chains has been pending for a long time.

Many governments have come and gone but they did not build the cold chains for the storage of vegetables. Lot of vegetables go into the drain as there are no cold chains.
