Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the new mobile app for Prime Minister’s Office at a function on Saturday to celebrate two years of the government’s online citizen engagement platform Mygov.in.
The application, which has been developed by a team of young engineering students from Delhi Technical University, aims to provide every citizen access to the PM’s office through a mobile device.
The government had launched a two-phased contest in March 2015 on the MyGov platform for the development of PMO app, MyGov Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gaurav Dwivedi said.
“Prime Minister will launch the app during the second anniversary function of MyGov that we are organising here on August 6. The event will feature multiple panel discussions and the first ever ‘town hall’ to be addressed by the Prime Minister,” he added.
Mr. Dwivedi added that select citizens would get to interact with the Prime Minister during the town hall. “We are trying to get a fair representation of people from across the country. Those who have been active on MyGov platform and have contributed with quality suggestions are being short-listed,” he said.
The Prime Minister already has an app called ‘Narendra Modi’ that provides citizens an opportunity to receive messages and emails directly from the Prime Minister. However, it is a private application.
The day-long event will have panel discussions and see the participation of union ministers, including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad.
MyGov was launched by the Prime Minister in July 2014. The platform has several groups like Clean Ganga, Girl Child Education, Digital India, Food Security and Healthy India. It has 35.2 lakh registered members, 33.40 lakh comments in 590 discussion themes and about 1.82 lakh submissions in 491 tasks.
