With the objective of cleaning of lakes and water surface area visible to the public, the HMDA has procured floating trash collectors which moves in the water body duly collecting the trash and the floating material along with water hyacinth and weeds in a faster way. This also avoids human deployment working in the unhygienic condition of polluted water.
One such floating trash collector was deployed in the Durgam Cheruvu today to clean the lake. Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar along with GHMC Zonal Commissioner Harichandana and CE HMDA BLN Reddy were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kumar informed that the floating trash collectors would be deployed at the lakes in urban areas wherever the growth of water hyacinth is existing and will be shifted to the other lakes.
It will be a continuous process to keep the lakes clean. He said that HMDA has so far procured seven floating trash collectors while the GHMC has placed an order for six of them at a cost of Rs 1.5 crores per machine. The lakes in urban areas are facing the problems of growth of water hyacinth, weeds and also the floating materials such as plastic and domestic wastes flowing into the lakes through nalas.
The water hyacinth and weed growth in the lakes is causing mosquito menace in addition to the foul smell emission, he added. The GHMC has also procured six pyrofine oil spray drones in each zone for spraying of mosquito spray.
Meanwhile, the HMDA has formulated a schedule for deployment of floating trash collectors for cleaning up the lakes. Mallannakunta lake in Ameenpur village, Tallakunta lake in Ghatkesar mandal and Pasumamula cheruvu in Hayatnagar mandal will be cleaned in the next two months. On completition of the above lakes, further lakes will be taken up in a similar way and the machinery equipment will be shifted and deployed wherever it is required to keep the lakes clean and hygienic.
