The suspense over the formation of Government in Karnataka continues. Despite being the largest party BJP has no enough numbers. JDS joined the Congress for the CMs post. Both the groups met the Governor and the ball is in the court of Governor.

The governor can invite an alliance of parties that was formed before the elections.

The governor can invite the single largest party that stakes a claim to form the government with the support of others, including independents.

The governor can invite a post-electoral coalition of parties, with all the partners in the coalition joining the government.

The governor can also invite a post-electoral alliance of parties, with some of the parties in the alliance forming a government and the remaining parties, including independents, supporting the government from outside.

These provisions were affirmed by a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court in Rameshwar Prasad versus Union of India case in 2005.
