Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar along with GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore inspected Durgam Cheruvu and took stock of the progress achieved in the construction of cable bridge across the Durgam Cheruvu. MD TSIIC Narasimha Reddy, Additional Commissioner Hari Chandana and Chief Engineer Sridhar were also present. The iconic bridge once complete would be a major tourist attraction in the city, he said. He said that steel railing on both sides of the bridge will be set up. There will be arrangements for the pedestrian pathway as well.

Later speaking to media persons at the site, GHMC commissioner Dana Kishore informed that a planned and concerted effort is being made to complete the project by the end of October. Apart from laying walking track and cycling track, an integrated lighting system is being planned with an estimated cost of Rs 10 crores, he said The concessionaires apprised the officials about the progress of the works. The cable bridge is having a span length of 233.85 mts and stands as the longest span.

The extradosed cable stay technology is being adopted to preserve lake heritage and beauty. The bridge when completed will cater a dense traffic movement from road no. 45 to in orbit mall with a configuration of four-lane traffic movement, two-lane cycling track and an additional footpath of 2.5m. Durgam Cheruvu bridge of this span in length is the first project in India to be constructed in the dense traffic of urban city with 24×7 traffic with high profile movement. All the works are performed at a height of 20m and above from the ground level. The project location lies in hilly terrain thereby having tremendous levelling.
