The formation of Telangana signifies the victory of the Telangana movement. It commemorates the official separation of Telangana from the state of Andhra Pradesh. On 2 June 2014, a 57-year-old movement came to an end, realising the hopes of the Telangana people.

Telangana, India’s 28th state, was founded on 2 June 2014. Telangana celebrates its Formation Day to mark the people’s contribution to form a separate state outside of Andhra Pradesh.

All the Telangana districts honour this day by hoisting the national flag. Besides that, the state of Telangana honours its people for remarkable achievements in science, art, and literature.

Telangana is celebrating its eight birthday today, on 2 June. The state was officially formed on June 2, 2014, and is commonly known as Telangana Formation Day to mark the significance in the state’s history for the Telangana movement throughout the years.

The Telangana Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in February 2014 by the Congress Working Committee and the BJP. The bill was placed on the table of the Parliament of India in 2014 and it was in the same year when Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act got its clearance. The President of India gave assent to the bill and it was published in the gazette on March 1, 2014. The bill stated that the state of Telangana would be formed by taking in ten districts from north-western Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana, the 29th state in the country, came into existence after it was carved out of Andhra Pradesh, triggering massive protests in the Seemandhra region. Every year on the occasion of Statehood Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and political leaders from across the spectrum extend their greetings to the people of Telangana.
