The complaints of senior citizens have gone up these days. They are not being taken care of properly by their children. Some of them are dumping them in old age homes.
There are instances where the parents were killed by the children for the sake of property. While some complaints are not entertained, some complaints are yet to be attended.
Senior Citizens residing in various parts of the Twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have represented and urged over the ill-treatment and harassment being faced by them by their adult children and legal heirs irregularly claiming their shares in their self-acquired properties and also children who are well to do are neglecting the old and hapless parents and thereby depriving the rights to live decently and respectfully as guaranteed and protected under the “Maintenance & Welfare of Parents & Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Upon their representation, Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Minister for Home, Government of Telangana, directed the Director-General of Police, T.S., to issue suitable instructions to all the Police authorities and SHOs in the State to entertain the complaints lodged by Senior Citizens on Priority Basis and to initiate action as per Law.
