The division bench of the Supreme court today said that the parliament should enact laws to see that criminals and people facing criminal charges should not come into the political system.
The judges observed that the court cannot take away the right of any citizen from contesting the elections unless and until that particular man is convicted. The people must also be educated to know about the candidates and the background of the candidates who would contest the elections. The Judges also observed that the people with a criminal background or facing the criminal charges should not be voted to power.
The system should infuse purity in the politics the Judges opined. The parliament should enact a legislation where the criminalisation of politics would end they said. The court was not in a position to disqualify the candidates who are facing charges in the court. The law must be enacted in the parliament to stop them the judges stated.
The parliament should see to it that such candidates with criminal background and facing the charges should not be allowed to become lawmakers.
