Human resources development Prakash Javadekar criticised coaching centres saying that these institutes treat children as ‘slaves’ under the pretext of training them to get admission to premier institutes. Many students are committing suicides in Telugu states.
Javadekar also said that there is a sharp decline in teaching standards in schools due to reliance on such institutes.
Assocham survey revealed that nearly 87 percent of primary and up to 95 percent higher secondary school students attend private coaching classes.
In February, the Supreme Court had said that private coaching institutes need to be “regulated” as they cannot be “wiped out”. It had also asked the Centre to frame guidelines for it.
