The national anthem must be played before screening of movies in cinema halls, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday.But the reality is that the number of people going to the theaters has come down drastically. Most of them are seeing movies t home and home theaters.

In this context we have to see how many of them would stand up for the national anthem at the theaters.

The court also banned the playing or showing of abridged version of the national anthem.

In its ruling, the court said that people in the halls should stand up when anthem is being played and the national flag should be displayed on the screen.

There should be no commercial benefits involved in the exercise and no dramatisation of the anthem, it said, listing out some conditions.
