Dr. Sravan Dasoju has strongly condemned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s so-called inquiry into the appalling incident of chaining a tribal farmer in Lagacharla Village, Vikarabad District, Telangana. He termed it nothing more than an eyewash and a camouflage to obscure the Chief Minister’s draconian approach towards tribal farmers.
“The government’s actions clearly reveal a systematic effort to suppress dissent, violate human rights, and deny justice to marginalized communities,” said Dr. Dasoju.
The incident involving Mr. Hirya Naik, a tribal farmer who opposed the forcible acquisition of his ancestral land, epitomizes this oppressive governance. Arrested on November 12th, Mr. Naik, who suffers from heart-related ailments, was subjected to inhumane treatment, including being handcuffed during hospitalization—an act that blatantly violates Supreme Court directives prohibiting such practices.
Dr. Dasoju alleged that while the Chief Minister feigns concern with a superficial inquiry, his administration is actively scuttling the rights of detained farmers. Bail petitions are being obstructed, prolonging their detention under baseless charges. Additionally, family members and legal representatives are being denied access to the detained individuals, turning their ordeal into state-sponsored torture and a gross violation of constitutional principles.
He further demanded that all prisoners, particularly Mr. Hirya Naik, be provided immediate and adequate healthcare. He insisted that Mr. Naik be shifted to NIMS, Hyderabad, for specialized treatment to address his critical health condition. Dr. Dasoju warned that the government will be held directly responsible for any health-related eventuality affecting the detained farmers due to negligence or inadequate medical care.
Dr. Dasoju emphasized:
•The so-called inquiry is merely a deceptive tactic to distract from the oppressive actions of the government.
•The refusal to grant bail and the ongoing inhumane treatment of detained farmers are deliberate attempts to silence dissent and intimidate others who stand against injustice.
1.Ensure Immediate Medical Attention: Provide specialized treatment at NIMS Hospital for Mr. Hirya Naik and other affected individuals, prioritizing their deteriorating health conditions.
2.Uphold Legal Rights: Expedite bail petitions for detained farmers, ensure fair legal proceedings, and refrain from filing baseless charges.
3.Cease Inhumane Practices: Adhere to constitutional mandates and Supreme Court directives by prohibiting the misuse of handcuffs and ensuring humane treatment of detainees.
Appeal to NHRC:
Dr. Dasoju has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take cognizance of these grave violations and issue notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Telangana. He demanded an impartial inquiry and a detailed report on the unlawful actions of the state police and the treatment of detained farmers.
“The Chief Minister’s attempts to mask the truth through superficial inquiries cannot hide the oppressive policies and systemic injustices inflicted upon tribal farmers. Immediate corrective measures are needed to restore justice, democracy, and human dignity,” concluded Dr. Dasoju.
