Solid waste management

Arvind Kumar, IAS , Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD & Commissioner, HMDA stated that the Government of Telangana has taken several initiatives in the area of Solid Waste Management (SWM) including plastic waste. He further added that Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) are being installed in all the ULBs and so far 68 cities it has been completed.

In addition to Telangana only Odisha State is implementing FSTPs. He appreciated the efforts of Municipal Commissioners in the area of Solid Waste Management and wished that the outcome of the workshop will further enhance the capabilities of the municipalities in further fine tuning the SWM towards low cost solutions.

Smt A.Vani Prasad, IAS , Prl. Secretary to Govt. of Telangana & Director General, EPTRI stated that the resource efficiency and circular economy are the need of the hour and she further stated that EPTRI has established Waste Recycling Complex (WRC) and will help the Municipalities in establishing similar centres for ensuring Zero waste concept.

Dr. N.Satyanarayana, IAS , C&DMA stated that Zero waste concept may be implemented in Gated Communities and he said he looks forward to low cost solution in removing hyacinth in the lakes.

The Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners, Environmental Engineers and Sanitary Inspectors stated that the workshop is useful and will work towards low cost solutions in the areas of SWM.
