Punjab tourism minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a special package of Rs 100 crore for revamping Jallianwala Bagh as the state government is set to observe the 100th year of the 1919 massacre by the British Raj here next year.
Sidhu was taking stock of facilities to be provided to pilgrims visiting the place. Interacting with the media, the minister said that though a year remains for organising a state-level function to pay tributes to the martyrs, he wants to start preparations in this regard “from today”.
He said he will ask chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to constitute a committee of senior officers for it.
The prime motive of observing the 100th year of massacre, he said, is to shine a light on the history of the heroes for the youth.
