Shoe hurled at Rahul Gandhi- unfazed

A shoe was hurled at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Monday during a roadshow here.

Hariom Sharma, a resident of Shastri Nagar locality, flung his shoe from a distance at . Gandhi at Transport Crossing, from where the roadshow started. However, the shoe did not hit him.

The youth was immediately detained by the police and taken to the city police station.

The youth was heard saying “roadshow is useless”, according to an eyewitness.

Prima facie, the youth has no political links, police said. The matter was being probed.

Rahul was unfazed by the shoe incident. “I am not afraid of such attacks,” he said, blaming BJP and RSS for the act. While I was headed here, I was attacked by the people of BJP and RSS. I want to tell that that they can attack me as many as times as they want, I will not back down and will keep on fighting.

The Congress leader has been on a poll campaign in the election-bound state.

There have been a number of shoe and ink attacks on politicians recently. This month, a shoe was hurled at Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia by Congress leader Tarlochan Singh in the Punjab assembly.

Recently, AAP leader Manish Sisodia faced an ink attack while Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had a shoe hurled at him in April.
