With the depletion of the ground waters, Telangana and Hyderabad arereeling under severe water crisis. The water tankers business is thriving across the city. The consumption water and power has gone up because of the Ramzan Mahina.
The water being supplied by the HMWSSB has come down drastically. Each of the households is not even being supplied even 1000 litres by the Government. The pressure is low , the quantity is very less.
Getting water by tankers has become routine in twin cities. Drinking water is being purchased by the people on day to day basis.
Most of the major reservoirs in the southern States of Karnataka,Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are filled to only 25% of their capacity or less. This is worrying as peak summer is round the corner.
Some large dams such as the Tungabhadra in Karnataka and the Nagarjuna Sagar on the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border are filled to 5% or less of their full capacity. Other large dams such as Mettur in Tamil Nadu and Srisailam on the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana border are also filled to less than 30% of their capacity.
The water crisis in Bengaluru may soon hit other urban centres and rural areas if this situation continues in the following days.
Chief Secretary Shanti has reviewed the water issue with the officials, but what can they do when there is no water in the reservoirs? The people must brace up for the next two months and wait the rains to get inflows into the reservoirs.
