Senior actor Jayanthi who acted in more than 500 films as a leading died due to ill health. Jayanthi also contested in elections and lost 2 times. Jayanthi acted in many films with NTR and ANR.

Born in Ballari, Jayanthi was a classical dancer who went on to become an acting stalwart by performing in versatile roles. She deservingly won the Dr Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005-06.

Jayanthi is suffering from asthma for more than 35 years and has been undergoing treatment for the same. In 2018, the actress was admitted to a private hospital near in Bengaluru for breathing issues.

She is a popular face in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries. She is one of the most sought-after actresses in South India and has acted with the likes of MG Ramachandran and Kannada superstar Dr Rajkumar.

Kasturi Nivasa, Miss Leelavathi, Sri Krishnadevaraya and Edakallu Guddada Mele are some of her most noted works. The 75-year-old actress made her debut in Kannada cinema with a film titled Jenu Goodu (1963).
