Seminar on Library Information services

Department of Library and Information Sciences of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), organised a two day National seminar on “Changing Contours of Reasearch In LIS In the Information Age” Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, was the Keynote Speaker at the Seminar.

Porf. Uma said Library and Information Science subject and established LIS as a multidisciplinary field that has relationship with technologies, science, management science, humanities and social science domains. Library and information science is growing at a faster pace, the quality of research is of great concern to the academics, educationists and planners to explore the impact of technology on library services, development of electronic resources including e-books, e-journals, e-database, and the problems posed in their acquisition and access at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad.

Prof K. Seetharama Rao, Vice-Chancellor, BRAOU attended as chief guest and he said the Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University started offering Bachelor of Library & Information Science (BLISc) Program has grown from a mere enrolment of 50 students in the first batch to more than 3000 students in the present batch who are enrolled in BLISc and MLISc.

The distinction of a pioneer in education and training in Library and Information Science through ODL, more research is needed on appropriate pedagogy and delivery system for teaching, learning and assessment in LIS programmes for digital age.

Prof.E.Sudha Rani Director (Academic) presided over the Inaugural session and prof.Ghanta Chakrapani, Dean (Social Sciences) Dr.Laxma Reddy, Registrar of the university spoke on the occasion. Dr.G.Saroja, Seminar Director was welcomed and introduced about the program and Keynote speaker. Mr. Kiran kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
