Scientific literacy must improve

Allola Indrakaran Reddy , Minister for Environment, Forests, Science and Technology, Endowments Inaugurated the National Meet on science and technology. He stressed on the need for increased Scientific Literacy among the public for the development of Scientific Attitude in accordance with the stipulation of the Constitution of India vide Article 51(A).

He also desired that the Science &; Technology interventions should increase in all sectors of society and should be implemented for solving location-specific problems. He requested the Government of India for greater cooperation on Science & tech; Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Advisor & Head, State Science and Technology Program Department of Science &; Technology, GoI participating as the Guest of Honour said that the role of State
Science &; Technology Councils has to be redefined according to the changing times.The State Science &; Technology Councils should take the lead role in the facilitation of interventions for the state-specific problems and should be oriented towards science and tech Governance. Prof.Satish B. Agnihotri, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and the Chairman, Expert Group on State Science & Technology Councils constituted by the DST, Govt. Of India informed that the Telangana State showed good potential in the development and application of Science &; Technology in various fields.

He further stressed that Science & Technology Councils should be strengthened in order to develop a Science and tech-driven knowledge society.Er. Ravinder Gaur, Member Secretary, State Science &; Technology Programme, DST, Govt. of India explained the salient features of State Science and tech Councils.Prof. Ravi Kumar Puli, Member Secretary, TSCOST explained about the programs and activities of TSCOST in Telangana State. Member Secretaries, Director Generals, Directors of State S&T Councils / Departments from all
over the country have participated in the Meet.
