Saving Accident Victims on Road – Training of first responders in the first aid

As Cyberabad witnesses hundreds of fatalities every year in road accidents, it is imperative that the first responders need to be equipped with basic first aid skills to save the injured persons in golden hour.

Every month almost 25-30 persons die in hospitals while undergoing treatment for the injuries sustained in road accidents. This stresses the need for basic first aid including the skills and knowledge on how to observe and handle the injured at the accident site.

Keeping this in mind, Cyberabad Traffic Police in association with the SCSC and CIHS (Care Institute of Health Sciences) have started the ‘first responder’ training course involving the field level police personnel and the citizens who reside along the accident prone road stretches and locations. It is part of a broader road safety initiative ‘SAVIOR’ which envisions accessibility of proper golden hour trauma care to the accident victims.

As part of this programme, on 08-07-2021, 10-07-2021, 17-07-2021 the 18, 19 & 20th batch of training was conducted to 87 persons at CTC, Cyberabad. Students/Employees from different colleges & IT/ITES Companies were part of this training. They were taught various first aid skills viz., Active bleeding control, scene protection, handling, shifting, CPR etc.,

Every alternate day a batch of 30 members are getting Trained, this is an Initiative of Cyberabad Traffic Police in Association of SCSC and CIHS (Care Institute of Health Services) and the Purpose to save the accident victims – SAVIOR. As part of it today., 17.07.2021, 20th batch training was conducted to 37 members of Students/Employees from different colleges & IT/ITES Companies etc., So, that they can also save the lifes of accident victims. Till today, 661 members were trained in SAVIOR initiative.

Cyberabad Deputy Commissioner Of Police, Traffic, S.M. Vijay Kumar, IPS., appreciated the efforts of Cyberabad Traffic Police – SCSC – CIHS under ‘SAVIOR’ and called for more inclusive efforts to improve road safety. Citizens need to come forward and learn scientific methods of helping the accident victims.

He also said that it is continuous process and thousands of Police personnel, Volunteers and citizens will be trained under this initiative.
