Telugu states are brimming with festivities. The first festival in the new year and it is for 3 days in the name of Bhogi, Sankranthi and the last day being Kanuma. The festival is basically for food and sports apart from enjoyment.
People from city have already reached the villages and some are on the way. New clothes, special food items, kite flying, cock fights, bullock cart races mark the festival in rural areas. New grain comes into the villages and it is distributed to the poor and needy. The first day marks the pooja, the second day marks the celebrations and third day it is enjoyment with non-veg, booze and other items.
Haridasulu come to wake up in the morning and Gangireddulu come for fun and take away what they get during the festival days. Going to new movies of their heroes is also another pass time in city and also villages. In some other parts of the country Jallikattu with bulls and oxes is conducted. Some of them play gambling also.
The newly married couple gets lot of gifts and respect at their in-laws house. People abroad are also celebrating the festival in their own way. The very early morning on the day of Bhogi old items are dumped in front of the house and bon fire is lit and children dance going around .Gobbemmalu with cow dung is also put in front of the houses. City people fly kites with manja and cut others kites. International kite festival is being held in Hyderabad.
Record dances are held in nights with loud music. Youth dance to the tunes late into the night. Relatives come in and enjoy with the family members. This is the only 3 day festival enjoyed across the Telugu states. Kabaddi is also played in some parts of the state.
