Disney India officially drew the curtains on Hindi film production due to the losses they faced in last few years.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who also suffered a loss with ‘Bombay Velvet’, believes that production houses suffer suffer loses because few producers overpay Bollywood actors such as Salman Khan, Shah Rukh, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.
Anurag, who was last seen in Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Akira’, feels that few actors are getting overpaid for their work, so when the film fails to do a good business at the box office, it’s the producers who have to deal with the loses.
Baring his soul, Kashyap poured his heart out in an interview , where he threw light on the unfair payment issue in Indian film industry. “We had four Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan in the Forbes highest paid actors whereas the rest were Hollywood actors.
The films starring the Hollywood actors earn in millions and billions but ours earn at max Rs 300 crore. But still, there are Indian actors on that list. So if you see the ratio on the list, business of the film vs income of the actor, there is a huge disparity. Actors from the industry where film earns Rs 300 crore is on the list and on the other hand, there are films which earn 1.2 billion in other industries and the actors are even below our actors on the list.
So I hope you got where the issue is,” Anurag Kashyap said.If stars can come down a little, then the industry will flourish and the producers will also have a breather.
