The supreme court will take up the issue of Sabarimala today. Chief Justice Gogoi will take up the matter and hear the petitions which were against the entry of women into the Ayyappa Temple. It may be noted that recently two women have gained entry into the Temple casing lot of anguish amongst the Ayyappa devotees. Dharnas were held and the government was brought to a standstill.
The BJP, on the other hand, is supporting the argument of the Temple board while the local Government is supporting the Supreme Court Verdict. The court said that women of all ages can have Ayyappa Darshan and god is equal to all and the women have all the rights to enter the Temple. But the Temple board says that it is against the customs and traditions of the Presiding deity here.
The court is all set to hear the arguments from various quarters and then decide on the future about the women being allowed for darshan. It has to be seen if Gogoi will go back on the verdict that the court gave earlier. There is a chance that they might come back to the earlier system of women above 50 only being allowed into the Temple for Ayyappa Darshan.
