As Joe Root is delaying his arrival to join England for the ensuing one-day series in India, waiting for the birth of his first child, the talk continues who will take over Cook as England captain in future.
After England’s debacle in India, there are speculations that Cook may be replaced by someone when England play at home this summer. While most of the experts admit that Root can be an ideal man for captaincy, some reckon that Cook should continue for more time.
Even Cook was of the opinion after England’s defeat against India at Mumbai that Root is ready lead England. “He is ready because he is a clued-up guy and he has the respect of everyone in the changing room”, that is what Cook said.
Only four years ago Root made his debut, but he has been England’s most consistent batsman, scoring runs in all formats. When he has been made current vice-captain, it is clear that the English management will want him to take the responsibility in future.
The great quality of this youngster is, he never comes under pressure as we have seen him rescuing his side many occasions. He is arguably, England’s prime batsman in all three formats at the moment.
With no international commitments till July, Cook has some time to think of his future position. He can sit with Strauss to make further decision. He has undoubtedly been one of England’s finest captains in recent times and no one has impressed like him as a batman since he made his debut against India a decade ago at Nagpur. Incidentally both Cook and Root made debut at Nagpur with a six years gap.
As England looking for a sharp brain, after Cook who will have this rare privilege and honour of leading the side is to be seen.
