Chief Minister Sri K Chandrashekhar Rao has asked Tourism and Sports Minister T Srinivas Goud to make arrangements to conduct Regatta competitions on Godavari river at Godavarikhani like the competitions being conducted at Husain Sagar in Hyderabad.
The CM congratulated MLA Sri Korukanti Chander for organising a Boats competition under the name Telangana Mastyaveera KCR Cup. He said the Telangana which saw people plunging into the river for collecting coins is now turned out to be organising Boats competition on the rivers.
He said Chander’s initiative of conducting boat races on Godavari river should be appreciated. The CM said Godavari river would be alive 41 Kms long from Sundilla Barrage to Ellampally Barrage under the Kaleshwaram project. When water is not flowing to its brim, water sports can be conducted.
Tourism and sports fields should be developed utilising the situation. Every year, Ragatta competitions will be held at Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. Similar sports events should also be organised at Godavarikhani.
He wanted boat races and other water sports should be organised in association with the Sailing Club, the CM instructed.
