Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Department of History, in collaboration with South Indian Numismatics Society and Telangana State Council of Higher Education Inaugurated the two days National Conference on “Numismatics – Reconstruction of South Indian History and XXXII Annual Conference of South Indian Numismatics Society”..
The Chief Guest Chief Guest Prof. V. Kihsan Rao, Member of Archival Board, NAI, Former Registrar Osmania university, advised Historians to Look back to propel forward. He was of the view that everyone had knowledge and they were an encyclopedia in themselves. Numismatics is a source of inspiration and plays a major role in construction or reconstruction of History. He said that every Historian should go to the spot of ancient discoveries to record their observations. learning is an everyday process and it should be continuous activity for every student of History.
Keynote speaker Prof Raja Reddy recalled the contribution of Satavahanas to ancient history. He stated that the Satavahanas had literary works of outstanding merits. in the World history the place of the Satavahanas has special mention. one-third of 1 BC was ruled by them. Inscriptions, Coins and Literary works are the perfect documentations of History. Two inscriptions were found in the last 30 years in Karimnagar, the latest was as early as 10 days ago. The existence of Chemuka Satavahana was found through coins. 420 panchmad coins were found in Karimnagar and 10 coins in Esampally. Satavahans had the traditon of putting Siri or Sri on their coins. Finally, he advised young people to study coins because they gave accurate information.
Prof. E.Sudha Rani, Seminar Director, and Director GRCRD, BRAOU,Presided over the function. She highlighted the Indian Historical movements and importance of Indian history. She has suggested the research scholars to record the each and every evidence whatever they find at the time of research and advised to explore the history of that particular evidence and record it for future generations.
