Ramappa proposal defended in ICOMOS

A delegation comprised of Mr. B.V. Papa Rao, Architect GSV Surnarayana Murthy and Kakatiya Heritage Trustee, M. PanduRangaRaowell defended the Indian proposal of Ramppa Temple to be inscribed as World Heritage Site in front of about 30 international heritage experts of ICOMOS in a meeting in Paris today. ASI officials Dr. Janhwij Sharma and Mr. Milan Kumar Chauley attended meeting through skype.

The Government of India nominated RamappaTemple as it’s candidature in January 2019. In September 2019, UNESCO sent an ICOMOS expert Dr. VasuPoshyanandana to visit the Ramappa Temple.

After this expert visit in September, ICOMOS experts discussed the proposal and held a detailed meeting with Telangana and ASI officials today.

Papa Rao, who led the delegation, is satisfied that the discussion and clarifications given by the Indian experts. The delegation was also asked to submit some more information by February 2020.

Thereafter ICOMOS will do a final evaluation of the proposal and send their recommendation to UNESCO in April/ May 2020. UNESCO will then put the proposals for the voting of World Heritage Committee consisting of 21 member countries of UNESCO in a meeting in June/ July 2020 in China. Final decision will be taken in this UNESCO meeting in China.
