The Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan Government asked the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing challenging Salman Khan’s acquittal in the two chinkara poaching cases on Thursday.

The government had approached the top court against the acquittal on Wednesday and even asking it to direct Salman Khan to surrender. They also claimed that his driver was deliberately not cross-examined by his lawyers.

Two separate cases were lodged against Salman and seven others under section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act, one for killing two chinkaras in Jodhpur’s Bhiwad village around 26-27 September 1998 and another chinkara in Mathania around 28-29 September 1998 when he was shooting for the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

Yesterday the Vasundhara Raje-led Rajasthan Government approached the Supreme Court against Bollywood Salman Khan’s acquittal in two cases related to the chinkara (black buck) poaching case.

The government asked the top court to direct the superstar to surrender. They claim that Salman’s driver was not intentionally cross-examined by his lawyers.

The Rajasthan High Court on July 25 had acquitted Khan in the poaching case citing lack of evidences to incriminate him.

In 1998, Khan and seven others were accused of hunting and killing chinkara in two separate incidents.

One of the animals was killed at Bhawad on the outskirts of Jodhpur on September 26, 1998, and the other at Ghoda Farms on September 28, 1998. At that time, they were shooting for the film ‘Hum Sath Sath Hain’.
