The intense rainfall has led to the rapid erosion of road surfaces, resulting in large potholes and craters that have become hazardous for commuters.
The situation is particularly dangerous at night, with poor visibility exacerbating the risks posed by these road conditions. Large puddles have also formed in several areas, adding to the difficulties faced by daily commuters.
People have expressed their concerns, and urged the authorities to take immediate action to repair the damaged roads. The risk of accidents has increased, and residents are calling for urgent measures to address these hazards and ensure the safety of the public.
In Andhra a total of 48 NDRF and SDRF teams have been pressed into service while six choppers — two from Navy and four from the Air Force — have been airdropping food items and airlifting the stranded people from inundated areas. As many as 228 boats have been deployed to evacuate the people to safety while 315 swimmers were engaged along with boats for rescue operations.
The APSRTC has arranged 167 buses for transporting passengers from surrounding railway stations to Vijayawada and for other relief operations.
