Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has emphasized on the need to improve quality of teaching for better standards in higher education.

Expressing concern over the declining standards of teaching, the Governor called for concerted efforts to improve the teaching standards and for the promotion of research.

The Governor, as the chief guest, was delivering the inaugural address at the two-day seminar on “Synergizing higher education in the context of NEP-2020: Strategies for implementation,” at the Tagore Auditorium, Osmania University campus, here, on Wednesday.

She stated that the teaching vacancies need to be filled on a priority basis in the universities to improve the quality of teaching and standards.

“National Education Policy-2020 is having a potential to transform the education system and will pave way for India to reclaim its position as the Viswa Guru and for this the NEP needs to be implemented in letter and spirit,” she added.

The Governor appealed to the State governments to collaborate with the Central government for the effective implementation of the NEP-2020 to herald global level standards in higher education.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that the NEP-2020 promotes critical thinking and all-round innovation and will help the country emerge as the knowledge-based economy and create an equal, equitable, accessible, and inclusive education system.

“Indian students are superior in their grasping power and we are respected all over the world for our skills and talent. However, we need to think seriously as to why are we failing to attract the foreign students to our educational institutions, while around 10 Lakh Indian students are studying abroad,” she added.

Academic leaders need to take the lead in creating enabling eco-system for the implementation of the NEP-2020 and promote the multi-disciplinary education and research.
