You will be surprised that in some parts of the world people do not know about the language called Telugu. UNESCO in fact has reported that Telugu is on the verge of extinct. Calling for promotion of Telugu language and stopping it from becoming extinct, founder-president of Paravasthu Padya Peetham Parvastu Phanisayana Suri has announced that he would stage a three-day fast from Monday.
Referring to the UNESCO study, which said that Telugu language was facing the danger of becoming a dying language, Mr. Suri wanted the government to take immediate steps to protect and promote the language.
He would stage a three-day fast from the birth anniversary of Telugu linguist and litterateur Gidugu Ramamurthy Pantulu on Monday to create awareness on the seriousness of the issue.A group of Telugu lovers – Telugu Dandu – would simultaneously start a signature campaign to promote the language, he said.
He suggested all Telugu-speaking persons to exclusively use Telugu at least for one day in a week and also use Telugu in their food-related conversation. The fast would be staged at Gandhi statue opposite GVMC main office.
